Roppongi in La Jolla

One of my all-time favorite restaurants in San Diego is Roppongi. It is located in La Jolla on Fay Avenue. The food served there is Asian-Fusion. You can choose to order from only the left side of the menu if you want, that would be the appetizers or tapas. Or you can also order from the right side which is the regular dinner menu. I always order from the left side. There are about 20 different tapes to choose from. This is a wonderful way to share small plates among friends and family. It allows you to try many different items. I like all of them, but a few are favorites of course. The Polynesian Crab-Stack, the Spicy Kung Pao Calamari, the Chinese Pot-Stickers, The Chicken Satay, The Pan-Seared Scallops on Potato Pancakes, and The Indian Spiced Kefir with Baked Flat Breads are all wonderful items. My husband also loves the Foie Gras, the sushi items, and The Duck Quesadilla. Not part of the tapas menu, but fairly inexpensive and well worth the money is the Thai Curry Coconut Soup. It is one of my favorites. Let’s not forget dessert. The Tahitian Bananas are out of this world.

The prices on these items may seem a little expensive at first, but here is a secret. If you go daily between 4-6 PM and sit in the bar, all the tapas are half-price. The bar area include the inside and the outside on the patio. We go to Roppongi whenever we want to celebrate something. I must say that it is rare that I go to a restaurant where I think so many items are outstanding. Roppongi is one of these restaurants.

We went to Roppongi last Sunday. There are about 7-8 additional new tapas on the menu. We tried several of them. The shrimp tempura with fennel fries was delicious. Loved it.

Make sure to check out the hostesses too! Management has good taste in more ways than one!
