Kafe Yen in San Diego

We have just been to a restaurant in Pacific Beach of San Diego called Kafe Yen. This restaurant serves a variety of Asian food. Thai, Japanese, Vietnamese and Indonesian cuisine were all represented at this restaurant. Initially we went there because we felt like having Thai food and we thought this was a Thai restaurant. We also wanted to try a restaurant we had never tried before. Its location is one block from the ocean. Pacific Beach isn’t my favorite neighborhood in San Diego due to its heavy presence of bars and tattoo parlors, but this was a nice restaurant. It was cozy and relaxing.

The food we had was very good. I had a tried and tested item that I frequently order at Thai restaurants. It is called Drunken Noodles. The dish consists of pan-fried noodles which gives it a smoky taste along with basil, vegetables, and your choice of meat (or non-meat.) I had it with fried tofu, which I love. The dish was very good and very similar to other Drunken Noodles dishes I’ve had elsewhere. My husband ordered a dish which I think was called Sweet Tamarind. He thought it was awesome. It consisted of ground chicken in tamarind sauce poured over your choice of meat (or in his case, fried tofu.) I also thought this was an excellent dish. In addition, we ordered our usual satay sauce (peanut sauce) and rice. To drink I had a very large Thai Ice Tea. We may or may not go back to this restaurant again. It is not a destination restaurant, but if we are in the neighborhood and we feel like Asian food, this is a good choice.

I love this place. In fact I had fun having dinner with you last night. The tofu was amazing!

Very decent for P.B. Pacific Beach is a little on the not so fancy side. This place is a nice breath of safety and good food in P.B.
