A Walk Across The Golden Gate
One of my favorite (and scary) things to do in San Francisco is to talk a walk on the Golden Gate bridge. I’m afraid of heights and it is not something that I can do easily. However, the bridge offers one of the best views of the San Francisco skyline. The length of the bridge is approximately 1.5 miles long. I have never walked all the way across, but I’ve made it about half way. Even during the summer it can be blustery and windy on the bridge, so I recommend wearing warm clothes. During the evening it is closed to pedestrians, so if you are planning to make the walk, you must do so during morning and daylight hours. There is no charge to pedestrians. Cars will have to pay toll in order to drive across it. If you are afraid of heights like me, I suggest you walk as close to the railing that is between the pedestrians and the cars. I have never been comfortable looking over the railing and down at the Pacific Ocean below. If you are looking for a great photo opportunity, one of the best places to take a photo of the bridge with you in the background is down below the bridge at Fort Point.

If you get freaked out by heights the way I some times do, make sure to look over the edge. Whooooo……., kinda mind blowing!
Also if you can go mid tide, either going in or out, check out the wake underneath the bridge. The wakes look like boats going 30 miles per hour!
